The length is a type of measurement and it is considered as one dimension. The base units are used for length measurement and it is also called as distance. The base units have two measurement values like large unit and small unit. We can convert the large unit to small unit or small unit to large unit. Now we are going to see about base unit for length.

Explanation for Base Unit for Length
Base units for length:
We can use the two types of units for length measurement. The names of units are metric unit and customary unit.
Base unit – metric unit:
Metric units for length:
The metric units are millimeter, centimeter, meter and kilometer. The measurement values of metric units are,
1 cm = 10 mm
1 m = 100 cm
1 km = 1000m
Base unit – customary unit:
The customary units are inches, feet, yard and mile. The measurement values are,
1 feet = 12 inches
1 yard = 3 feet
1 mile = 5, 280 feet
We can convert the one unit into another unit. These two units are standard units.
Some examples for length measurement base unit:
The thickness of sheet is measured by mm.
The television screen width is measured by cm.
The road width is measured by meter.
The distance of road is measured by km.

Example problems for base unit for length:
Problem 1: Determine the road length in meter from 12 kilometers.
Answer:
The base unit is 1 km = 1000 m.
Therefore, the length of 12 km road is 12000 m.
Problem 2: The length of building is 14 m and convert this length into cm.
Answer:
The base unit is 1 m = 100 cm.
Therefore, the length in centimeter is 14 x 100 = 1400 cm.
Exercise problem for base unit for length:
1. Convert the length of road 520m into km.
Answer: Length of road in km is 0.520 km.
2. Length of box is 360 cm and finds the length in m.
Answer: Length of box is 3.6 m.
